Places Offering Meals in Our Area for People Without Power

The following places will be open for people without power who need a hot meal:

  • Lynchburg First Church of the Nazarene will be serving a hot lunch starting at 12:30 p.m..,. Tuesday to anyone who needs it. It's on 1737 Wards Ferry Road, Lynchburg. Also, they have ice and a cooling center.
  • Liberty University's Reber-Thomas Dining Hall will remain open to the public for breakfast (7-9 a.m.), lunch (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) and dinner (4:30-7 p.m.). The cost is $3; children and emergency services workers eat free.
  • The Salvation Army will be opening a Mass Feeding Center July 3 in the Exhibit Hall of the Roanoke Civic Center for citizens without power. Lunch will be available for pickup between 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. and dinner will be available for pickup between 5 p.m-6:30 p.m. It's on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg is open 24 hours as a cooling center on Main Street.  They will be offering breakfast 8 a.m. - 10 a.m., lunch noon - 2 p.m., and dinner 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. They  have buffet style meals for $3 per person and free for kids.
  • In Forest, Living Word Baptist Church on Waterlick Rd. will be open as a cooling center beginning Tuesday from 9 a.m. - 10 p.m. They will have basic breakfast and lunch food.

The following places will be open for people without power who need a hot meal:

  • The Salvation Army will be opening a Mass Feeding Center July 2 in the Exhibit Hall of the Roanoke Civic Center for citizens without power. Dinner can be PICKED UP between 5 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. SEATING WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR EAT-IN DINING. Lunch and dinner for Tuesday, July 3 are being tentatively scheduled as well. Lunch will be available for pickup between 12:30 pm-1:30pm and dinner will be available for pickup between 5pm-6:30pm. It's on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Lynchburg First Church of the Nazarene on 1737 Wards Ferry Road is serving free lunch starting at 12:30 p.m. Monday. The church is also open for those needing shelter from the heat.
  • Bedford County Fire and Rescue says that a truck load of bottled water is available for County and City residents in need. The truck is located at Bedford Elementary School on Tiger Trail (behind the Bedford Welcome Center). One gallon of water per person per day will be given out. A trailer load of ice should be coming at about 1:30 p.m. Monday at the same location.
  • West Lynchburg Baptist Church on Memorial Avenue will be serving free lunch Monday from noon until it is gone.
  • Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg is open 24 hours as a cooling center on Main Street.  They will be offering breakfast 8 a.m. - 10 a.m., lunch noon - 2 p.m., and dinner 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. They  have buffet style meals for $3 per person and free for kids.
