A long-time Tulsa native and community activist has announced he is running for City Council in District 1.
He is the former leader of Tulsa's NAACP.
Twan Jones says, Councilor Jack Henderson has failed North Tulsa on multiple levels.
Henderson has held the seat since 2004.
Monday at the Tulsa Press Club, Jones said Henderson failed to bring new business to District 1, to keep North Tulsa parks open and to obtain community block grants.
Jones promised, "I will seek federal assistance, when state and local leaders failed to improve the disparities that exist in my district and have been in existence for years and have been consistently ignored."
The Democratic primary election is September 13.
