Danville, VA - As many of you get ready to head out to Fourth of July celebrations, officials are urging safety!
Fireworks are against the law in Danville city limits.
Anyone caught shooting off fireworks or even lighting up sparklers could be charged with a class one misdemeanor and forced to pay a fine.
Fire officials would also like to remind you that because of the dry weather and extreme heat, a firework in the wrong place can spell disaster.
"In the past we've actually had a bottle rocket to go into a gutter that had leaves in it, smoldered during the night and early morning we had an attic fire," said Barry Neal, the captain of the Danville Fire Department, Station 1.
If you are going to be near fireworks, make sure you've got a bucket of water nearby just in case.
