Danville, VA - We are just a few hours away from fireworks, as everyone seems to be enjoying the Fourth of July. In Danville, parks were packed and people were out all day celebrating.

"We are celebrating because it's the day that we had independence," said 10-year-old William Wyley.

And 236 years later the party continues. All over Danville folks found ways to enjoy the summer weather and soak up the celebrations.

"I'm looking forward to seeing fireworks go in the sky at some point and today is the day that I get to do anything," said Wyley.

And what's the fourth without fireworks and family? That's why the Bradshaws drove for miles to meet up for Independence Day.

"It's 4th, Independence Day, so it's a good day to be with family. It's an important thing," said Lee Bradshaw, North Carolina Resident.

"Wonderful. Of course I am retired but they all work so it is great that we can get together," said Martha Bradshaw, Clarksville Resident.

But it's not all play, some had to work on this weekday holiday.

"Most service industries do work on the 4th of July so we are pretty accustomed to it," said Ted Stinnett, who was working on 4th of July.

Ted Stinnett spent the afternoon in the heat at the Carrington Pavilion, bringing in paychecks instead of holiday fun.

"We are able to provide a service that everyone else can enjoy and in our industry that is a requirement," said Stinnett.

But no matter what your plans, the meaning of the day didn't go unnoticed.

"It makes me really think about our country and how we got to where we are today," said Stinnett.
