Danville, VA - It's not everyday that you see city officials floating down the river, but that happened in Danville Friday.
We've told you about how a 14 mile stretch of the Dan River is being considered for a designation as a 'scenic river'. Friday evaluators came from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation to take a look at the river for themselves.
City Council members, the Deputy City Manager, and supporters all went along for the ride. We asked evaluator Lynn Crump about the Dan River's chances.
"They seem pretty good. I can't say emphatically that they will qualify, we will have to make sure that we have all of the data that we need to make that determination but the fourteen criteria that we look at seem pretty good," said Crump.
They are considering three rivers for the honor this year and there are a total of 28 scenic rivers throughout the Commonwealth. We probably won't know anything until winter 2013.
