Madison Heights, VA - For the next few days, eight New York City kids will be calling Madison Heights, home.
A non-profit organization, The Fresh Air Fund, out of New York City, pays for inner city kids to spend weeks at a time with host families in Central Virginia.
The city kids will be spending their time visiting local landmarks, as well as doing things they could never imagine doing at home, like riding horses, going hiking, and swimming at Smith Mountain Lake.
The kids were quick to point out the differences between Madison Heights and the big apple. "He speaks a little bit country-ish," said one boy from Queens, NY. "In Virginia, it's kind of quiet and stuff, and in the Bronx, it's very loud," said another from Bronx, NY.
The program places thousands of kids with families across the east coast. Six families in Madison Heights will host eight New York City kids.
