Martinsville, VA - A four year old girl from Martinsville lost her life after family says she was trying to help her brothers move a utility pole.
Madellyn Alexis Rogers better known as "Maddy" was playing on her swing at her home on Lees Ridge Rd. Friday evening around 7:45 pm.
Family members say her three brothers and a few other children tried to move the heavy pole that was lying in the yard.
Maddy decided she wanted to help out and tragically that pole hit her in the head and she died later that evening from the injuries she suffered.
We had a chance to speak by phone with her Great Grandmother Pat Wells who told us Maddy was one of six children, and the family is devastated and hurt.
She said Maddy was such a tiny beautiful girl, who loved to smile.
Her fondest memory is when Maddy would call her on the phone and sweetly say, "Nanny, me love you all day long"
Maddy would have celebrated her 5th birthday on September 15th and started school this fall.
Wright Funeral Service in Martinsville is handling the arrangements, and the Henry County Sheriff's office is considering her death an accident.
