Campbell Co.,VA- A kayaking trip down the James River turned into a scary situation in Campbell County on Wednesday.

Emergency officials say a mom and her son wound up stranded on a kayak. Dispatch got the call a little after 1 p.m. Lynchburg's Urban Search and Rescue Team and Concord emergency crews were sent out to find them. They pair was on the James between the Monacan Bridge and Babcock and Wilcox. Emergency officials say the mom and son were just tired and lost.

"As hot as it has been people like to flock to the water. You just need to know what you are doing before you go out on the river or at least have someone with you before you try to venture out on a river especially like the James," said Stephen Spraker, chief of the Concord Volunteer Fire Department.

Emergency officials found the pair near an embankment by some train tracks. They called the CSX train to stop so they could pull the pair to safety.
