Forest, VA - A Lynchburg businessman got a huge surprise Thursday.
Some kids from the Boys and Girls Club gave T. D. Thornton and his wife Virginia mugs as a thank you. It's all part of a campaign to recognize people like the Thorntons who donated the current Boys and Girls Club building.
The Thorntons say they are happy to help an organization that reaches so many kids.
"You can go down there and see the results. You see these fine young boys and girls that would be maybe walking down the street. And, they are inside learning stuff. They love it. It's a home away from home for them," said T. D. Thorton.
"Without donors like them, we would not be open. We are open five days a week currently. I will tell we do not have a revenue source outside of fundraising so people like this is what makes Boys and Girls Club possible," said Tabitha Abbott, marketing & special events coordinator.
Boys and Girls Club officials say they plan to honor one donor a month like this for the next year.
