Lynchburg Teen Chases Olympic Dream

Lynchburg - 15-year-old Thomas Boring of Lynchburg is chasing a dream of one day being an Olympic gold medalist...IN THE SAND.

Boring's specialty is beach volleyball and he's very talented.  So much that he's earned an invitation to play in the Under 17 USA Beach Volleyball National Championships beginning this Sunday in Hermosa Beach, California.
Boring is not your tall player, he's 5-9.  But he turned some heads in a tryout in Chicago last month.  Now he and his family head to California Friday for the National Championships.  So how did a teenager in Virginia fall in love with the sport of beach volleyball?

Thomas Boring said "My Dad was coaching when I was like before I was born.  And it was I guess in my blood.  And as I got older, I got hooked I guess."

Doug Boring, Thomas' Dad, said "He'll have a lot of fan favorites because of his size, favoritism because of his size and people love the underdog.  But he can jump like crazy."

Thomas Boring said "Hopefully I can place on the podium when I'm there and maybe that'll eventually lead to me playing in the Olympics in a couple of years."
