Altavista - Altavista shortstop and pitcher Rick Adams will take his baseball talents to Louisburg College in North Carolina, about 30 minutes outside of Raleigh.
Happy Birthday greetings to Adams, who turned 19 Thursday. Louisburg coaches have told the 2011 Dogwood Player of the Year they want him to play shortstop and do some closing on the mound. The Hurricanes are coming off a 52-and-9 season this past spring and post-season play.
Rick Adams said "Derek Jeter was my idol, you know I saw him play on tv and I was like I want to play professional baseball one day. So you know when I found out I had a chance to go play for college, it was just a dream come true. You know I always wanted to just keep growing up and keep playing baseball. So I hope to go down there and work harder than what I've been working, get my grades up and go Division One after my two years there."
