Madison Heights - Halifax took on unbeaten Amherst Wednesday night in the 13-14 Dixie boys regional final in Madison Heights. Halifax would have to beat Amherst twice to win the title and they took care of business in game one. R.J. Oliver unloaded a two-run homer late. After trailing 10-2, Halifax stormed back to score the next 19 runs and win 21-11. The winner of game two would earn a higher seed in the state tourney at Carroll County. Halifax took the lead in the first inning, Oliver's chopper over third base got by the left fielder, allowing Jake Hughes to score the first of two runs in the inning. Zach Wood singled up the middle for Amherst, trying to get something going. But Halifax would build a big lead and wins 14-4, the game shortened to five innings. Both teams advance to the state tournament in Carroll County.
