Update: Massive Fire at General Truck and Body in Roanoke


Roanoke, VA- The General Truck and Body Company in Roanoke is completely ruined after a massive fire ripped through it Saturday evening. Fire crews form Roanoke City, Roanoke County and Salem responded.

The fire started at around 7:30 p.m. Crews responded to the 1900 Block of 10th Street Northwest. Eyewitnesses said they heard several explosions coming from inside the building.

Police were forced to evacuate around 30-people because of the heavy smoke. Officials say there was one worker in the building at the time, we are told he is doing fine. Two firefighters were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.


AEP crews had to turn power off within several blocks of the scene.  As of Sunday crews were working to restore power for about 90 people.
