Lynchburg Beats Big Island in Legion Tournament

Lynchburg - Lynchburg Post 16 scored eight runs in the fifth to snap a 1-all tie and Lynchburg went on to beat Big Island Post 217 15-8 in a winner's bracket game of the American Legion District 9 Tournament.

Matt Blanks and Dylan Caruso both had three hits for Lynchburg, which fought out several comeback attempts from Big Island.  Post 217 scored three in the sixth to get as close at 11-8, but Lynchburg scored the final four runs of the game.

Cal Hodgert drove in three runs for Big Island.

Big Island now faces Danville Monday afternoon at 4, with the winner staying alive and facing unbeaten Lynchburg at 7:30.  If Lynchburg loses Monday night, there would be a second game Tuesday night at 7 for the title.  If Lynchburg wins, Post 16 is the District 9 champion and will advance to the state tournament.
