Greensboro, NC - The NCAA dished out severe sanctions Monday against Penn State in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex scandal.
Penn State has been fined 60 million dollars and hit with a four-year football bowl ban. The Nittany Lions have all their wins from 1998 through this past year taken away, Joe Paterno's career wins drop from 409 to 298, he falls from first to 12th on the all-time wins list. The Lions also cut 10 initial scholarships, then 20 each year for four years. And players may transfer and play right away at other schools.
Mark Emmert, NCAA PRESIDENT, said "Certainly the lesson here is one of maintaining the appropriate balance of our values. Why do we play sports in the first place and does that culture ever get to the point where it overwhelms the value of the academy, those things that we all hold dear."
