Danville, VA- Averett University's has received a big boost to their nursing program. The University has been approved to start offering Bachelor of Science degrees in nursing.
The Southern Association of Colleges, or "SACS," has made this possible.
In order for students to qualify, they must already have an associate's degree or diploma from an approved registered nursing program.
To be approved, Averett had to develop the curriculum, the nursing laboratories and show they had a qualified faculty.
The university has built a simulated hospital complete with mannequins and equipment. They say it was a team effort.
"It's a dream come true, we keep talking about big dreams, bold futures and this is one of those dreams, we are well on our way," said Dr. Mary Condon, chair of the nursing department.
The new Simulated Center at the Riverview Campus opens August 21.
