Lynchburg, VA - How would you like to have your application fee waived at one of our area's private colleges? Well thanks to Virginia Private College Week you will have that option.

Twenty-five Virginia colleges and universities are taking part in this year's event. Some schools say in years past they have seen a 100 percent increase in the number of students touring their campus when compared to a typical summer week.

Within our viewing area sits 11 participating private colleges.

"Typically during the summer we will have 30 visitors, but during Virginia Private College Week that number will double," said Michael Quinn, the Vice President of Enrollment at Randolph College.

He says many students choose a private college after participating in this event.

"The point of Virginia Private College Week is to enable parents and students to have an opportunity to visit the excellent private colleges throughout Virginia," said Quinn.

From July 30th through August 4th, 25 of Virginia's private colleges open their doors and plan special events to inform high school juniors and seniors about their school.

There also incentives for participating. If you visit three or more schools, then you will be able to waive the Application Fee for any three participating private colleges in Virginia.

"Families and students who are considering private liberal arts education like it because they can make multiple visits to colleges and see a number of colleges within a relatively short period of time," said Quinn.

Quinn also says one of the most important parts about picking any college or university is actually stepping foot on that campus.

"It gives them a better feel for what the school is about. That is something parents and students can't get online," said Quinn.

Schools from all over the state are participating next week. Visitors are asked to pre-register with whichever school you plan to attend, but walk-ins are welcome.

If you would like to see a list of schools that are participating, you may visit the Virginia Private College Week web site.
