The Cavaliers made it to the playoffs last year and lost in the regional championship to Broadway. At the end of the 3rd quarter in that game JF fumbled a kickoff that eventually led to the loss.
They lose quarterback Marcus Jones and his world of talent but JF brings back eight starters on each side of the ball. Jones threw for more than 1,000 yards last year and "that's a lot of yards passing for our offense," Rice said.
There's a 2-man battle at the quarterback position between senior David Jacobs and Ryan Crist who played JV last year.
Who ever wins the job will run an option attack offense and then turn it over to a full speed defense that plays "smash mouth football."
QUARTERBACK BREAK DOWN
David Jacobs - Senior who is taller with a stronger arm
Ryan Crist - Started on JV last year and is quicker, understands the game, and had a good "football head"
Coach Don Rice said, "both will play some position on the field."
Sabre Stadium has a new scoreboard with the years of the program's state championships and Rice says "this team wants to put another one on there."
Michael Foster and Jason Ayers are JF's main threats at tailback. They need to find a kicker and their defense will once again be their trademark. Senior lineman Mike Baker said, "full speed, 11 hats to the football" on defense.
This season JF has two preseason scrimmages and then they open the season at Halifax County in week one.
