Lynchburg, VA - It's the first new building in Liberty University's transformation to a more Jeffersonian look. The new Hancock Welcome Center is now open.
The 33,000 square foot building has three levels and an outdoor patio. The bottom floor is set up with interactive videos and personal tour guides for guests.
It cost about $9 million to build.
The building's been in the works for the past two years now, and it's named in honor of some LU donors.
"I called them one day and I said, 'That's such a beautiful spot, I hate to do it, but we can't find a way to renovate that building. Would you mind if we tore it down? If we do, we'll name the new building the Hancock Welcome Center so they said, 'Yeah, sure that's fine,'" said Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr.
The Hancock Welcome Center also has a room for LU's board members, and the bottom floor is set up as a spot for students to hang out.
