Lynchburg - The Liberty Flames hit the field Thursday morning for day one of fall practice, their first preseason under new coach Turner Gill.
LU, 7-and-4 last year, opens the season four weeks from Saturday at Wake Forest.
Coach Gill says the starting quarterback job is wide open between redshirt freshman Josh Woodrum out of Cave Spring and redshirt junior Brian Hudson out of Stafford. And the battle COULD GO into the season if there's no clear-cut winner.
Turner Gill, LIBERTY FLAMES HEAD COACH, said "Ideally, we'd like to go a solid two weeks, give 'em a chance to see where they're at, who's made the best improvement, who's the guy who can help us win football games."
Dennis - "What do you feel like you need to do to win this starting job?"
Josh Woodrum, FLAMES FRESHMAN QB (CAVE SPRING), said "Just be consistent with my decisions, I mean if you protect the ball, you make good decisions with the throws and with the run-keys and stuff, you know everything is going to be going good. The coaches are going to see that and they're going to have trust in you."
Brian Hudson, FLAMES R-JUNIOR QB, said "I think consistency would be the biggest thing I need to do everyday, come in and be the same guy. Do what I have to do and do it every day."
