Lynchburg - A ninth-inning rally against Frederick fell just short as the Hillcats were swept at home Thursday night for the first time this season.
Thursday night was Hillcats' ALS Awareness Night, Amherst County's Carlo Russo and many family members among the crowd. They got to see a see-saw final game of the series. Tied at 2 in the fifth, Dan Brewer's chopper up the middle got through, plating Nick Ahmed who had hit his league-leading 32nd double of the season, 3-2 'Cats.
The Keys, though, tied it in the sixth, then took the lead with two in the eighth, Travis Adair's rbi single to right made it 5-3.
Keys catcher Allen de San Miguel took a hard hit into the fence chasing the foul pop.
Down to their last out, one aboard in the ninth, Mycal Jones drives one to left, a homer ties it, it hits off the top of the wall, just a few feet from a two-run shot, Emerson Landoni scores, it's 5-4.
But the Keys hang on for the win. The Hillcats hit the road for their next six games, returning home next Friday night.
