Update: 9-Year-Old in Critical Condition After Getting Hit by Car

Lynchburg, VA - Officials say the 9-year-old hit by a car Friday is still in critical condition. 

We'll bring you updates as we get more information. 

Update 5:30 p.m.:

Lynchburg, VA - Officials say the driver that hit a 9-year-old child in Lynchburg Friday is Carole J. Rose, 55, of Lynchburg.

Rose was driving eastbound on Timberlake Rd. in the left lane when she hit the child, who was crossing the street.

Officials say the 9-year-old child was standing with his mother and three sisters, (ages 1,6 and 11.) When they began to cross the road, the mother saw a car coming and told her children to stop. The 9-year-old did not hear her and ran across the road where he was hit by Rose's car.

He was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital and then flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center. He is currently listed in critical condition.

Both inside lanes on Timberlake Rd. were closed for a couple of hours Friday afternoon. The Lynchburg Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit is continuing its investigation.

Update 3:25 p.m.:

Lynchburg, VA - Officials say a mother and her three children walking out of a driveway right beside the Wooden Chair were getting ready to cross the street.

The mom saw a car coming and told her kids to stop, but one child didn't hear her and started to cross the street. An older woman was driving the car that hit him while he was crossing the road.

Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg police say a boy between 8 and 10 was hit by a car Friday afternoon on Timberlake Road.

They say the boy, who has not been identified, was crossing the road in front of the Wooden Chair when he was hit by a car.

Lt. Marks with the Lynchburg Police Department say the boy was with family at the time. No other family members were hit.

The boy has been taken to Lynchburg General Hospital, and right now police do not know his condition.
