Lynchburg, VA - Middle school kids got a dose of the medical profession this week. It's Centra's Medical Careers Camp, and it's totally free.
Centra hosts the camp at Virginia Baptist Hospital with help from a grant. It makes the sciences fun and interactive for kids. They learn about speech, occupational and physical therapy. And their counselors are medical professionals.
Organizers say it's a great way to give kids the science bug.
"This is the perfect age for children to be introduced to health careers. Plant the seed now, they will probably pursue it through high school. Wait until high school, sometimes it's too late," said Ruth Maragni, a camp director.
The camp director says three-quarters of the campers want to be doctors.
