UVa's Sims, Rocco Talk After First Practice

Charlottesville - The Virginia Cavaliers opened preseason camp Monday afternoon at The Park, located on the North Grounds of the University.

Monday and Tuesday, it's helmets only for the Cavs.  They'll add shoulder pads for Wednesday and Thursday before going full pads on Friday.   The media buzz around the first practice was the chance to see quarterback Phillip Sims suit up and take part in drills for the first time.  Sims transferred in June from Alabama.

Phillip Sims, FIRST PRACTICE WITH CAVS, said "Some people say oh he'll never start here, then I left.  Then they'll say oh he's not that good anyway.  Then I got here, oh he's not gonna play there, either.  So it's doubt since I graduate from Oscar Smith High School.  My job is to come out here and shut everybody up."

Michael Rocco, UVA JUNIOR QUARTERBACK, said "Phil's a great quarterback.  Everybody sees that and I see that as well.  But in the end, I believe it's my job to lose and in the end and I'm going to keep competing as hard as I can."
