Appomattox County Raiders - Football Friday Preview

Appomattox County - Today's Football Friday Preview spotlights the Appomattox County Raiders.  Former Heritage coach Doug Smith is in his first year with Appomattox.

A season ago, Appomattox rolled to a 9-and-1 regular season before falling in round two of the playoffs.
The Raiders are replacing Football Friday Player of the Year finalist Josh Wilson with junior quarterback Deion Edwards, one of several players making their first varsity starts.

Doug Smith said "I think Coach Ben Martin and Coach Jeremy Haymore - all those guys - they did a great job. They did a lot of things to improve this program. We have a whole other dream for Appomattox. We know they haven't always done real well in the playoffs and we want to try to get them to be successful there."
Justin Feldkamp asked "How quickly do you think that can happen?"

Senior receiver and linebacker Rod Glover said "I think we can do it this year. We have an awesome close-knit family. We're here for each other. We'll back up each other. We will go to war for each other every day, week in and week out."

Junior lineman Sam Leap said "I know this is a learning year for us but mostly I think if we can get it just get everything right, get the team together and not mess around like we used to we're going to have a very successful year this year."

Justin - Do you maybe see the passing game improving and just simply passing more this year?

Senior running back and linebacker Qwan Trent said "Yeah because Deion's arm is pretty strong and he makes good decisions."

The Raiders open at home against Buckingham County.
