Salem, VA - ATF agents have joined with Salem detectives to find out what caused an explosion that likely led to the death of one person.
Salem police took the call of a loud explosion followed by fire around 9 a.m. Thursday.
It happened in the 1700 Block of Victoria on the northwest border with Roanoke.
After putting the fire out, firefighters found the body of an unidentified person. It is unclear if the person died before or after the fire.
Because of the nature of the fire, ATF agents were on the scene through the day assisting in the investigation.
