Lynchburg Humane Society Hopes to Change Pit Bulls' Image

Lynchburg, VA - The Lynchburg Humane Society has produced a new YouTube video hoping to give pit bulls a more positive image.

The video is called pitbullfamilies, and has been viewed by more than a thousand people during the last 3-weeks.

It shows local pit bulls and their families, lasts about 3-minutes, and has facts about the breed between the photos.

The Humane Society estimates 1-million pit bulls are euthanized each year in this country.... because their negative reputation makes it hard to find homes for them.

Executive Director Makena Yarbrough created the video.  "I hope that this video will make people think a little bit more. Just like people dogs should be treated as individuals, we have some wonderful pit bulls here that would make great pets for any type of family," says Yarbrough.

Yarbrough says they have about 13 pit bulls at the shelter right now.  She hopes people will come in with an open mind and consider adoption.
