Registrars Deleting Deceased Voters from the Books
Amherst Co., VA- Virginia election officials are double-checking voting rolls, and have found a big error, 10,000 dead registered voters still on the books.
The State Board of Elections found the error by comparing the registration list with the Social Security Administration master death file. Now local registrars have the task of removing deceased registered voters. In Amherst County, the registrar has already removed 19 deceased voters. He and his assistant haven't seen this type of mistake before.
"It's a surprise when I heard Kathy said, "What is all of this?" I didn't know until the State Board sent us something telling us what it was," said Gary Beasley, Amherst County Registrar.
After deleting deceased voters, they will then send a letter notifying the family of the error in the next month. The State Board of Elections is still looking over the records to identify more deceased voters on the rolls.
