Amherst, VA - Amherst County Public Schools got off on the right foot at the annual division-wide staff meeting Friday morning.
The superintendent opened the new school year with a new message, but some special performers stole the show.
Dozens of performers from Amherst County's elementary, middle and high schools opened the curtain to another school year.
They danced, sang, and acted in front of a packed auditorium at Amherst County High School. It was for the annual staff orientation.
Before performers took the stage, Superintendent Brian Ratliff reminded teachers they're facing challenges with leaner budgets and the rising bar on student achievement. But his message is to stay positive, purposeful and productive.
"We're gonna face adversity and it's important that we continue to make good decisions during adverse times," he said.
The first day of school is August 14th.
