Strong Participation in First Year of 100-Mile Challenge

Lynchburg, VA - We are now at the halfway point of Live Healthy Lynchburg's 100 Mile Challenge.

Businesses in the area are competing against each other to see who can log the most miles either walking or running.  Right now, there are 84 companies competing, and they've logged more than 61,000 miles since July 1.

Genworth is in first place, followed by Centra and Liberty University.  But organizers say even smaller businesses can win prizes, based on average miles logged.

They are thrilled with how the program has gone in its first year.

"If we hadn't had this challenge, people wouldn't be losing weight.  People wouldn't be out there walking three or five days a week.  And it's not too late," said Christine Kennedy with the Chamber of Commerce.
