Crowd Reacts to Biden's Speech in Danville

Danville, VA - Most people say they felt inspired by Vice President Joe Biden's speech Tuesday morning.

Almost 900 people packed the institute to hear Biden speak.

"I think it was a great speech. I think Biden brought a positive message to Danville, Virginia," said Peter Warren.

"He is charismatic. He knows what he is talking about, highly intelligent, and I'm glad I came," said Janet McCormick.

Many people say his combination of humor, sensitivity and seriousness convinced them he should stay in office.

"It touched a lot of people," said Warren.

In particular, folks related to his stories of financial difficulty, some personal and some relatable.

"How many of you know someone who went to bed last night, stared at the ceiling and wondered, 'Am I going to be able to sleep in this bed under this roof two months from now? Am I going to make it?'" said Biden in his speech.

Michaela Adkins says she almost teared up hearing the Vice President. She says another term could mean a lot to her 16-year-old daughter.

"I think that she will have the same opportunities that my father had when he came from Germany in 1970 to live the American dream, hopefully. Have a good life, unlike me, without having to worry about whether I am going to pick up my medicine or whether I am going to eat," said Adkins.

Adkins says Biden has her vote, and she looks forward to four more years.

"I think they will bring America back to the middle class. We can be happy and healthy and pursue our dreams," said Adkins.

When asked about Biden's North Carolina slip-up, Danville Mayor Sherman Saunders, said the Vice President travels a lot, but as long as the country knows he visited Danville, Saunders is happy.
