Back to School Backpack Block Party Saturday

Lynchburg, VA - To help kids get ready to go back to school, the Old Dominion Lodge, on 5th Street in Lynchburg, held their annual Back to School Backpack Block Party Saturday.

They gave away backpacks stuffed with things such as folders, pencils, and glue for Kindergarten through 8th graders. High School students got a kit with composition books, notebook paper, and folders.

Along with the giveaways families were invited to jump in an inflatable bounce house.

The lodge says they are happy to help their community.

"It's important to take care of our community. We're in a recession and we know that everybody can't afford everything. Education is one of our biggest things that we look for in our organization. We want to make sure kids have a fair start in school," said  Leonard Washington,  who is the Exalted Ruler of Old Dominion Lodge #181.

The Old Dominion Lodge has been doing the party for about 10 years now, and this year they gave out over 400 backpacks.
