Danville, VA – Officials in Danville are launching a new effort to combat copper theft in Danville.
Director of the City of Danville Power & Light Division Ken Ashworth announced Wednesday that they would install a product that will help reduce the number of thefts that have been increasing over the past couple of years.
Southwire Company's new "Proof Positive Copper" will be installed in substations and on distribution poles. The product will be able to trace the copper to utility companies through an online database.
Officials from the Power & Light Division say they hope to see an increase in rates of people caught stealing copper in the short term and also see a decline in theft in the long term.
