Franklin Co., VA - Cars are already racing into Smith Mountain Lake where business owners are hoping rising gas prices and rainy weather won't put a damper on the holiday weekend.
If this Labor Day has you fishing for some weekend fun, they suggest you bounce on by to Smith Mountain Lake.
Michelle Lindsey and 3-year-old A.J. came all the way from Annapolis, Maryland to soak in the last bit of summer.
"We love it here at the lake, love it!" Lindsey said, watching her son bungee jump at the Bridgewater Marina.
It looks like rain is on the horizon. But the owner of The Midway's entertainment center says -- not to worry. If outside activities are stalled by the weather, they have plenty of activities inside including an arcade, Danny Waters explained.
"As long as it's not thunder storming we will be in the lake. You're wet anyways," added Lindsey.
At the Bridgewater Marina, the managing partner suggests you book now. This is the third busiest weekend of the year for boat rentals.
"The people are calling in. The phones are ringing off the hook. People are excited," explained Roy Enslow.
He says the Derecho hit business hard on the lake during the 4th of July Holiday. But they haven't crossed the finish line just yet.
"This is kind of like horse racing. We've hit Memorial Day. We hit Fourth of July. And if we can hit this, we get the trifecta," said Enslow.
He also says more and more people are extending their summer and coming to the lake much later than Labor Day. So, even if the weather doesn't cooperate this weekend, there will be more opportunities to come.
