Gretna, VA.-- About 200 people came out to a benefit to raise money for the Gretna Fire Department and Rescue Squad Saturday, and they did it in memory of a loved one.
The ninth annual Justin Harris memorial benefit was held at the Gretna Volunteer Fire Department.
Harris was killed in a car wreck in August of 2005. Nine years later his friends, family and community made sure he was not forgotten.
There was food and entertainment, along with a silent auction for everything from furniture to flowers. The money raised will go to the Gretna Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
Harris' aunt says it makes sense to give the money to the squad.
"We decided since they were the ones that you know that night that tried to save and did save Kathy that we can do it for the fire department and the rescue squad, "said Dale Bullington.
The memorial benefit has raised about $44,000 in the past eight years.
