Pastor Raises Money to Send People Home in Taxis

Lynchburg, VA - A local woman is really going the extra mile to help others.

Lynchburg Pastor Patti Bailey, who runs Heaven's Team Church of Hope, is finding rides home for grocery shoppers in need. On Tuesday, she helped those with SNAP benefits at the Super Dollar Discount Foods store at the Plaza in Lynchburg.

She's raised money through her church to buy their taxi cab rides home.

At first, she was using her own vehicle to drop those people off. But that changed once the government stopped handing out all benefits on one day. Now, they're handed out on four different days each month, so Bailey thought about using taxis.

"We'll start small, we'll start with helping people get their groceries home that way they can take that 10 dollars and put it toward their electric bill or their water bill, but I hope to grow the transportation initiative. I hope for it to become big," said Bailey.

Bailey says she needs your help with more donations and even volunteer drivers. If you'd like to help, go here for more information.
