First Citizen's Academy Starting in Danville

Danville, VA - If you have ever wondered what it takes to make your city work -- Danville has the answer. Thursday begins their first Citizen's Academy.

The city is putting on a series of classes that will include an overview of all major departments like police, the fire department and the finance department.

It is a weekly class that lasts two hours with optional tours on Saturdays.

While the classes haven't even started yet, they say it is a success because they've sold all 25 spots in a month.

"I think people are just curious because we take for granted sometimes how local government really is the form of government that impacts us the most. We are touched by it every day," said David Parrish, deputy city manager.

The classes go through November, and they plan to keep offering more.
