Danville, VA -- A Southside barbecue restaurant won 5th place in a national competition for their ribs! The owners of Danville and Martinsville's Checkered Pig went all the way to Nevada to compete in the 'Best in the West Rib Cook-Off'.
It was a six day competition. They cooked 6,000 slabs of ribs using their signature rub and sauce, which they sell in stores. There were 24 teams participating from all over the country. This is the highest the restaurant has placed since 2007.
"It's pretty awesome to hear your name called out there because like I've said, it is the best of the best. And it also helps attract the crowds," said Lisa Houston, Owner of Checkered Pig.
The owners hope this will bring in more people to check out their ribs.
