CVCS Awarded $1M to Expand Crisis Response for Children

Lynchburg, VA- Children in need of crisis assistance will soon have more resources in our area.

The state has given the Central Virginia Community Services board a one point $1M grant to expand child psychiatry services. The grant will allow for more telepsychiatry, psychiatric consultations and overnight crisis stabilization for children.

Right now there is only have daytime crisis stabilization for kids in Central Virginia.

These programs help kids when they are having a psychiatric or mental crisis.

"It's something where their behaviors become too extreme or intense for a home setting or a school setting that is something that might need a crisis response. The objectives of these services are to keep kids in their schools and in their homes," said Katie Chan, community relations specialist.

The grant money will also to expand these services in seven other localities.
