Martinsville, VA - Nearly a dozen people protested Congressmen Robert Hurt and Morgan Griffith in Martinsville Wednesday. They oppose House Bill 8, which gives tax breaks to the wealthy.
Both men voted in favor of the bill.
Protestors held signs and chanted about wanting the richest 2 % of Americans to pay their fair share in taxes. The group even handed out mock checks signed by the Congressmen to millionaires. While the bill has passed the House, many say it is simply unfair.
"America is not for the politicians, it's for the people who make up the country. And the politicians should be representing them so they can help the people," said Betty Chew, a Henry County resident.
Both Hurt and Griffith's offices released a statement saying that this bill is what is best for their districts and the decision is now up to the President and the Senate.
