Lynchburg, VA - An old corner store in Lynchburg is being transformed into a visitor's center.
The shop on the corner of 13th and Pierce Streets has sat empty for years, but crews have been hard at work. The store was alive and well in the 1800s selling groceries, cigars and even had a farmer's market.
The director for the Anne Spencer Museum, which sits just a few doors down, is behind the idea. She wants a visitor's center for the museum and the entire Pierce Street Renaissance district. The neighborhood is behind it.
"They're all like, 'Yes, that would be great to have something like that in our community.' So it's kind of driving me to do it and want to get it done," said Shaun Spencer-Hester, the building's owner.
To finish the project, the center needs sewer and plumbing. If you can help with time or money, call (434) 845-1313.
