Big Race Will Bring Thousands of Fans to VIR

Alton, VA - The American Le Mans Series is coming to Southside Virginia, and VIR is expecting anywhere from 10,000 to 20,000 race fans for the big event.

"We've never had a race of this caliber here. We've had some great races, we have a long history, but I don't think we've ever had a collection of cars this fast on our track before," says VIR Marketing Director Danny Vaden.

This is big news, not just for the fans, but for the Southside economy.

"Every restaurant, every hotel...the shopping areas and all should feel the impact as well with that many people," said Vaden.

Hotels from Greensboro to Gretna have been filling up fast and local business owners are glad to see the boost in business.

"The more business VIR gets is better for us. We're expecting full occupancy through the rest of this week," said Best Western employee Ann Linzsey.

Restaurant owner Mimma Brooks hopes more big name races will bring dollars into Danville in the near future.

"It gives more business to the city of Danville, not just to us but in general to everybody so I think it's great for the economy in this area," said Brooks.

As the engines rev this weekend, raceway officials think fans will find their money well spent.

"You can expect a lot of fun, a lot of food, a lot of fast action, and I think they're going to see a lot of cars that most of these people have never seen before," said Vaden.
