Former Congressman Touts Obama Record

Roanoke, VA - The first Iraq War vet to be elected to Congress made a stop in Roanoke Thursday to talk about veterans issues in relation to the presidential election.

Former Congressman Patrick Murphy says the president has a proven track record on veteran issues, which includes the largest increase in funding for veteran services.

Murphy says Mitt Romney indicated how he will treat veterans during the Republican National Convention through omission.

"Didn't even mention the war in Afghanistan. Think about the fathers and mothers of those 70,000 sons and daughters who are serving in harms way on our behalf, and he doesn't mention them one time in a 45 minute speech? It's shameful," said Murphy.

Republicans say that the Romney/Ryan budget will spend $17 billion more on veterans programs over 10 years than the White House will.
