Lexington - Richmond outscored VMI 28-0 in the third quarter, 31-0 in the second half to break open a tight game at the half and the Spiders routed the Keydets 47-6 Saturday afternoon in Lexington.
It's Richmond's 10th straight win over VMI, the Keydets' last win over the Spiders came in 1996.
Richmond's Justin Grant returned the opening kickoff 90 yards to give Richmond a 7-0 lead in the first 11 seconds of the game. VMI's Jabari Turner scored on a one-yard run to help the Keydets close to 10-6 early in the second quarter, but the third quarter was the difference.
Richmond quarterback John Laub hit 23 of 31 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown, he added a 14-yard TD run. The Spiders improve to 2-and-1 on the season, the Keydets drop to 1-and-2.
