Franklin Co., VA - The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is starting a new program to give back to the community. It's called Soles to Souls.
The office, along with Franklin County high school students, will be taking donations to provide new shoes for kids who can't afford them.
You can give a monetary donation or new shoes up through the week of Thanksgiving when the shoes will be distributed.
There will be donation boxes at several businesses and at the sheriff's office. There will also be events throughout the next couple weeks in the county to help raise donations:
- September 29- The National Take Back Initiative will once again collect unused and unwanted medications for safe disposal at locations throughout Franklin County. Drop Boxes for new shoes will be provided at these locations.
- October 6 - A Bass Fishing Tournament will be held at Smith Mountain Lake. Boats will embark from Penhook Boat Dock. Registration starts at 6:30 a.m.
- October 6 - A Pumpkin Ball Tournament will be held at the Benjamin Franklin Middle School on the Softball Field. The tournament will start at 10 a.m.
- October 6- A 90-minute Zumba Class will be held at the Benjamin Franklin Middle School. The class will begin at 10 a.m.
