Virginia's investment into tourism sure seems to be paying off. Foreign travelers are visiting the Commonwealth in record numbers.
According to the Governor's office, foreign travelers spent 21 % more in 2011 than in 2010 - a record $390 million.
Tourists are also staying longer in Virginia, helping boost those numbers.
In our area, experts say the number top international draws include trains and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
"You're looking at, behind me, some internationally known mountains. The Blue Ridge Mountains bring people here. It's a treasure in our backyard, and they're here to find that treasure," said Catherine Fox with the Roanoke Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau.
This news comes on the heels of other recent tourism news showing that industry in Virginia has rebounded to pre-recession levels.
