Rocco, Spiders Off to 2-1 Start

Richmond - Former Liberty Flames coach Danny Rocco has the Richmond Spiders off to a 2-and-1 start.

It's Rocco's first year as Richmond head coach after six seasons guiding the Flames.  The Spiders outscored VMI 28-0 in the third period Saturday en route to a 47-6 win.  The defense shut out the Keydets the second half.  One of the leaders of the defensive line is former V.E.S. star Jacob Pierce, STARTING this season after playing lots as a backup the past few years.

Jacob Pierce, R-JUNIOR DEF. LINEMAN (LYNCHBURG), said "You know I like to think of myself as a high energy guy, a high motor guy who gets guys fired up and, you know, does his job every play.  You know Coach Rocco talks about doing your job every play and doing it to the best of your ability."

Danny Rocco, FIRST-YEAR RICHMOND HEAD COACH, said "Really one of the leaders of our football team, certainly one of the leaders of our defense.  Plays extremely hard, he's got unbelievable passion for this game and those are the kind of people that I like to be around. And it's real important to Jacob Pierce that we win and he does everything that he can."
