Update: Kids Playing With Matches Started Danville Duplex Fire

Danville, VA - Danville Firefighters say children playing with matches caused the massive duplex fire there Thursday. Emergency crews got a call around 3:00 p.m. to the 1700 block of North Main.

Investigators say residents were inside the building when the fire started, but everyone got out okay and no one was hurt. Four families, 12 people in all lived in the duplex.

The Red Cross is helping the families with a place to stay.

Danville, VA - A fire in Danville Thursday left four families without their homes, according to the Fire Department.

Emergency crews got a call around 3 p.m. to 1706 North Main for a structure fire.

Five trucks responded to the call. Fire officials say residents were inside the building when the fire started, but everyone got out okay. They say there were no injuries.

Officials say 12 people are now displaced.

Neighbor Shayla Stephens was next door during the fire and says she can't believe this could happen.

"I feel bad for her because she got two kids and they are little. Everything just got burnt up. Just got burnt up. It's sad," she said.

The Fire Department is still investigating the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, the Red Cross has contacted the families.
