Rustburg, VA - The American Red Cross wants you to be ready the next time there is a disaster.
The Red Cross was in Rustburg Thursday telling people how to prepare their own disaster kit.
Among other things, the volunteer manager says to keep a flashlight close by and replace the batteries every year, whether you use it or not.
Another thing the Red Cross recommends is having at least $100 in cash set aside as part of disaster preparedness.
"Bring bottled water, bring gallon water jugs, you want to pack that. You also want to pack food, canned food , toilet paper, tarp and also documents. Make sure that you have insurance documents," said Philip Day.
The Red Cross says you'll also need mortgage documents and your ID. Another disaster preparedness seminar is set for the Timbrook Library on October 20.
