Fundraiser Saturday to Find Missing Hattie Brown

Posted:

South Boston, VA -  Three years since a Halifax County woman went missing, her family is refusing to give up hope.

Hattie Brown was last seen in a Sheetz parking lot in South Boston in 2009. Friday will be Brown's 52nd birthday and her family is determined to find out just what happened to her.

The family is planning a community-wide fundraiser in the heart of South Boston.

"We'll have something for the teenagers and the kids. We're having the bounce house. We're also having Sunshine the clown. We're having an auction as well," said Brown's sister Diane Brown.

Constitution Square will be filled with live music, food and fun. There will also be plenty of opportunities for folks to donate and support the family in their search for answers.

"We're trying to raise enough money in order to hire a private investigator. Hopefully we will have a good support from the community," said Diane Brown.

Police have no new leads in the case, since Brown's car was found in a lake in 2009. But her sister is hopeful this fundraiser will keep her memory alive and spur someone to come forward with information that will bring closure.

"It's painful. You get frustrated sometimes but we know information is out there and it's just a matter of...we know something will come up. We just know that," said Diane Brown.

The fundraiser will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Constitution Square in South Boston. Admission is free.
